Mersey Building Supplies (MBS) has been named official sponsor of historic Wirral-based Cammell Laird 1907 Football Club.
The building materials and site supplies merchants is one of three key sponsors, along with Cammell Laird and Carroll Waste, for the Wirral team who will soon kick-off the season as part of The North West Counties Division 1.
The club stadium – formerly known as Kirklands on St Peters Rd in Birkenhead has now officially been re-named ‘The MBS Stadium’ and the team has already played their first friendly against Tranmere Rovers FC as a warm up for both.
Carl Oates, Sales Director of MBS said: “This is a great move for MBS - we wanted to align ourselves with a small yet very ambitious club, as this has good synergy with our own business. In view of the fact that we trade in the area and are looking to open a branch, it seemed the perfect fit!”
“We’re also all really keen football fans at MBS and are passionate about the sport so to be able to follow a side so closely through the season with a strong and vested interest will be fantastic!”
Carl was previously Commercial Director with Warrington Town FC and will use his experience to support Cammell Laird 1907 FC with their exciting future plans.
Carl added: “This first pre-season friendly was designed to warm both teams up for their respective seasons. We are looking at building a stronger and more formal alliance between the boards of Cammell Laird 1907 FC and Tranmere Rovers going forward. “
Cammell Laird Institute Association Football Club was established in June 1907 and was based in Conway Street, Birkenhead originally playing at the Old Prenton Park
on Temple Road.
