Contractors Ameon form part of main contractor Kier’s supply chain at the £9million new build scheme that will see a modern learning facility replace redundant buildings on a disused site on the city’s, Victoria Place.
This second phase of the campus redevelopment which began earlier this year will feature a brand new purpose-built building and will include hair, beauty and holistic salons, health, social and child care facilities, as well as a ‘technology balcony’ and retail outlets.
The new sections of the college will be brought together through an open plan atrium space that will house a new kitchen and restaurant for students to learn hospitality skills. The College also hopes to develop a 14-19 Hub; special areas for 14-16 year old students where they can access Health advice and services to support their school and college studies.
The new building aims to achieve a minimum BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Very Good rating and has been designed with heat recovery systems, and low energy lighting. Daylight linked occupancy sensors will be used to control lighting and an automatic building management system will be installed whilst existing planting will be strengthened to encourage biodiversity.
