LED lighting manufacturers UKLED Ltd, has announced plans to bring a major part of their Far East manufacturing operation back to their Headquarters on the Wirral.

In a bold move to reduce the dependency on their Chinese operation, the company felt that it was the right time to introduce the automated elements of their operation to the UK where they could enhance the productivity of their Chinese counterparts.

Acutely aware that labour costs are much lower in the Far East than in the UK, Directors Mike Parker and Colin and Tony Griffiths, believe that with the use of the latest SMT (Surface Mounted Technology) machinery, the phenomenon of cheap labour becomes less significant. This allows a UK based manufacturing facility to compete equally with the Chinese through greater technological know how, and intelligent practices.

With a significant investment in SMT machines and other specialist equipment, UKLED aim to manufacture an LED replacement version of the fluorescent tube, in the North West of England, targeting the UK and European market as well as North America and the Middle East.

UKLED has quickly established a reputation as a leading specialist in the UK re-lamping market. Working with a broad cross section of public and private sector organisations, UKLED effectively re-model any existing commercial lighting system by replacing existing bulbs and tubes with an LED equivalent, a system know as “Re-lamping”.

The Re-lamping process is significantly less expensive than replacing light fittings that will still be serviceable for many years to come. And with the increase in energy charges already upon us, the prospect of reducing rather than increasing energy consumption is extremely appealing to the commercial user who can expect savings of around 70% on their annual energy bill.
